What's for dinner?

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Leftovers tonight: some semi ancient beetroot salad, some pasta (last nights!), which I will throw in the pan with something veggie... and possibly an egg on top.

I made kiwiranchs cheesy leek risotto - it's sooooooo yummy and really very easy! Also today I made scones - cheese and fruit (no not as one scone silly - separate batches!) lemon cake and oat and sultana cookies - so there's lots for supper too!

Cooking for myself tonight and pretty miserable as one of my cats has been awol since yesterday afternoon. I've spent all day trying to track him down but no luck so far.

I chopped onions, garlic, peppers and mushrooms some while back, bagged them and put them in the freezer. So I fried some of them with some red wine, chillis, pepper, tomato puree, salt and raw king prawns. While these were frying I poured boiling water on some couscous and made a quick salad. Then I strained the prawns and veggies from the sauce and used it to mix with the couscous. Pretty tasty and only five minutes to prepare.

We just had good ol' bangers and mash (of the gluten free variety for me in any case)

As we are minus DD1 for the weekend (at Nanny and Grandads) and DD2 is on weaning foods, we decided to be really lazy and not bother about having a balanced meal! We'll make up for the lack of veges another night.

Well todays tea is in the slow cooker already - lamb stew. Easy peasy - seared lamb chops chucked in with some carrots, leek, parsnip, turnip and a bay leaf fresh from the tree. I'll chuck in some herb dumplings later. Yummy!

Well, our dinner isn't going to be for a while yet as we have a problem at night with the water pipes so we go to bed at 2am then have to get up at 4am and go back to bed at 7am when the racket stops so we're not feeling too well having mixed up days so something light is in order. Then today we had people arriving at 11am and 12 noon to pick stuff up lol then we went back to bed again... repeat for tomorrow and we're going to be messed up by Tuesday

I think I'm going to have a lovely big crisp jacket potato with Cottage cheese on it mmmm

We don't know, it happened in January this year as well but we had a stopcock replaced downstairs in the hallway and it went away now it's back... oddly enough only we can hear it but the pipes vibrate so much it sounds like a fog horn which only stops when we run water only to return later and then when people get up around 7-ish it stops all day... we think it's something to do with pressure in the mains and the stopcock in the street being damaged perhaps because it's mighty odd... even the Plumber last time was confused

Can you shut down your stop cock before you go to bed? just until the problem is fixed? - we once had a busted tap and operated it using just the mains stopcock for 3 days

Hmmm... I made pumpkin pie for the first time tonight... I am not convinced, any tips? I feel it would be nice hot, with lashings of cream ore ice cream.

We had wild boar sausages, chunky chips and eggs and beans - I think that is the first time in months that nothing on the plate was homegrown... and it tasted delicious
