Spinach - yuk! It was quite trendy a while ago for restaurants to serve "wilted spinach" with a chicken breast or steak balanced on top. Quite revolting to get a mouthful of watery, slimy greenery with the meat. And tinned spinach is quite simply the work of the devil.
Reminds me of pond weed.

Tinned and frozen spinach are absolutely revolting, this is true (I'd rather eat a brussel sprout!!!) But they are very different from fresh spinach. Hmmmm bit like peas!
And come to think of it, tinned carrots and potatoes bear no resemblance to their real vegetable counterparts whatsoever and there should be a law abolishing the canning of said veg.

Can't vote as I like all those. Celeriac though... now that's a ball of root puke.

Re: Most hated vegetable Poll
I am trying to find a vegetable I don't like and I really cannot think of one. I guess it is just my obsession with eating (everything!) that stops me disliking any particular vegetable but I will say that ANY vegetable my Mother in law cooks would be classed as inedible. She was trying to feed me "good food" when I was pregant with number 1 and presented me with a "vegetable platter" Honest to God all the veg were the same greeny grey colour, the cabbage, brocolli and floury disintegrating lumps of boiled old potato. Errrgh. But as long as something is reasonably well prepared I am happy to eat it.
My mother in Laws stew cooking smells have made my husband whisk the baby off for a nappy change not once but twice with great ceremony.. only to find that the baby was clean and I am sitting there muttering at him"nooo it's not the baby, it's you mum's curry stew thing". I believe she has no taste buds. No wonder my husband is a vegetarian with an aversion to most vegetables.. anyone would be if raised on that food!

Re: Most hated vegetable Poll
I LOVE sprouts too - simply delicious. Not much I don't like on that list.
I'd suggest that those folk who hate broad beans try growing some and eating them when they are very young. Yummy. I don't like them once they've grown too big.

Re: Most hated vegetable Poll
I can't do sprouts in any way shape or form.
I used to carve out my roast potatoes when I was a kid and hide them underneath. My mum never seemed to mind if I left some potatoes but would go mad if I left any veg.

I also love all of them, so I cannot vote. The only thing I really don't like are lentils but they are not vegs, they are pulses, aren't they?
Re: Most hated vegetable Poll
Yes they are, but they're still a vegetable though .. just a dried version of another one of the pea/bean family.123sologne wrote:The only thing I really don't like are lentils but they are not vegs, they are pulses, aren't they?
But I agree with you, I can't stand lentils ever since primary school when they dished up lentil hotpot on a very regular basis.

I have to say that I am beginning to hate courgettes, but ask me again in the winter and I might like them again. We currently have 4 gigantic boxes of them and can't keep up!
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Re: Most hated vegetable Poll
I think HerbalHolly was being far too generous to celeriac when she called it a 'ball of root puke'. It's MUCH worse than that.
