I think our underpants, and probably the Girls "ahem knickers" were made of Sailcloth in my schooldays, and if you got a glimps of a girls knickers it meant you saw her kneecap so how exciting was that. Still we lived in hopes.

at least your son's trip was for good achievement. In many schools, those have been replaced by trips for the "naughty" ones to encourage them... (no comment)

Lightwater Valley, that made me laugh, I spent all my holidays and weekends working there as a teenager to earn money to travel and for university! Certainly wouldn't have wanted to go there as a prize for working hard!

Absolutely not a mean Mother, in fact I think you're being a responsible mother - t would be nice if less kids were spoilt and materialistic.
