my dad made me a dolls house when i was 5 - I loved it cos it had proper stairs and he wired up a battery in the attic so you could turn lights on . I refurbished it a few years ago for my son, fixed the lights, put in carpet and wallpaper... it still exists

I love that doll's house. Very Glad it was loved.
It reminded me of one a BIL made in our garage once, he spent weeks and weeks on it, put working lights in, carpets etc. The roof was tiled with individual tiles. He spent so long on it, working out details etc and finally it was ready to give to his daughter.
Years later we were discussing how much effort it takes to make things and that some people don't appreciate that effort when you gift them with handmade items. He turned to me and asked if I remembered the effort he put into that house, apparently it only lasted 2 months before his wife threw it out. There was nothing wrong with it, she thought it was too big and didn't like homemade things.

Didn't like home made things!!!!! Sounds like he needs a new wife.
I, too, know people like that. Mind you they can sometimes be changed. I had a friend once who reacted to my home-made, recycled cards by saying that she hoped I hadn't used recycled loo-paper! Now she makes them as well and is really hooked.

Well I'm sorry, but the hand knitted toilet roll cover dolly from my mother in law went to a charity shop when we moved house - we told her it got 'lost' in the move.
She then knitted us lots of toys - Robin Hood, a golfer, about 10 different characters - very well done and with all these knitted things like flower baskets and golf caddies. But!!! We are ADULTS!!!
They went in a drawer because I couldn't throw them out in case she asked about them. She lives in la-la land and buys herself dolls and presumably thinks other people will like them.
