Just spoken to a colleague/neighbour: his wife's friend works at a local filling station and knows that at least a dozen of them all around us are out of petrol. Probably all bought out by idiots like those ralley drivers (and the spectators), because they MUST HAVE THEIR FUN - it's a basic human right, isn't it? - nevermind that others can't get to work, or might not get the sheep fed out on the hills...

Actually, I feel an article for the local newsletter coming on.

My neighbour was buying fuel at Huntly yesterday and noticed a farmer she knows vaguely was putting fuel into a livestock trailer. She put her £30 of fuel in her car, paid for it and when she came out the the farmer was still pouring fuel. She went around the back to have a peek and he was filling a 1,000-litre IBC!

Okay, he has a big farm with a lot of vehicles used on road for which he can't use red diesel, but buying 1,000 litres is a little extreme.
