Slug pellets/Monty Don

I'm currently trying the iron phosphate pellets, together with nematodes and beer traps. Slug damage doesn't actually seem too bad, but I don't know why. I've got beer traps in, but they aren't catching much at all. Could it be that there isn't much to catch? Seems rather unlikely, perhaps it's more that the beer I am using is not "yeasty" enough...
