This thread does make me giggle- so many partner that are opposites, it's what makes the world go round I guess.

Everything you guys mention makes me remember another scenario....still I think you can't easily be green and OCD so despite being able to walk past a dusty shelf I think my approach is still better for the environment!!!

The dusty shelf is making me laugh - I'm pretty good really with the most of the house but here in our office I've probably dusted about twice (if that) in the 4.5 years we've been here. It's even got to the stage of my brother (hardly into housework himself) noticing the cobwebs and dust.

At Xmas he wrote Xmas 2008 and his name in the dust on my bookshelf - I only noticed it recently when I was on my exercise bike but I'm going to leave it there for the next time he visits which will probably be autumn.

I have come to the conclusion that this forum is extremely female dominated and us men don't stand a chance.

I always said I would never be tamed by any woman even after my marriage in '87 but in '89 we had our son and i became the "househusband".

She [ mrs big al ] gropped the bairn out and buggered off back to work after 6 weeks so since then I have done all the housework, cleaning, cooking, diy, shopping etc. I also became a classroom helper and got well imersed in the life of schools with governorship and PTA's etc oh and I did 5 alevels in one year whilst all this was going on. I did ok getting 2 A's 2 b's and a C in chemistry, environmental science, physics, human biology, and maths.... she went to work.....

who got tamed .... I often wonder but give mrs big al her due she is the world to me in more ways than I'll ever understand. As my disabillities now haunt me she is there to pick me up off the floor [ literally] insist " I only try for a few weeks" the social services adaptations to the house and other little things like making me use the car instead of the bus as the bus damages my back...

If you ask mrs big all where the dishwasher is she looks perplexed and says "he's there"!!

.... she still watches too much bloody football though....... I mean she could be making another veg deep bed HUMPH !!!

I was going to say if he wrote in the dust the letters would have to be exactly perfect but then if they weren't he'd have to enlarge the letters to make them straight etc and in the end the letters of the word would beso big he'd have cleaned the shelf with his fingers....

Methinks we're all getting a bit suburban now, with talk of spouse swapping....

Have we any plumbing hubbies out there who wouldn't mind being swapped for a week or two?
All our water system is cock-eyed & has been for years apparently - they never had a drop of water running thru the hot taps for 4 years when we moved in - the ball had stuck in the loft tank! Took Andy an hour to figure it & fix.....
BUT... the cold tap in the kitchen drips - and runs... and is a right bu&&er to turn off, so I don't - I pop the water jug under it & then the dog bowl, etc etc, but it desperately needs fixing.
We had a visit from the Health lady the other day, who had to take a water sample - then found she couldn't because no tap in the house comes directly from the mains - it all goes into the loft tank first..... so.... plumbers anyone??

In the meantime, I've written a love message in the dust on the cupboard in the lounge - will see how long it takes him, seeing as we're not using that room at the minute

And now he's home for 4 days, he's outside in his soil mountain again riddling..... and it's hailing out there..... hard!

Can't help with the plumbing but I hope this thread has cheered you up!

WOW!!! me too!!!! first time in.... well before Christmas anyway ... I had to scrape the mud off first... and heat the mop bucket on top of the stove (no hot running water) and OH put the wood that we bought for veg beds out in the garden, instead of in the house (where it has been for 6 weeks)

It sure has - and raised quite a few bouts of giggles too - the soil's still being riddled, mind & the seeds are still waiting, but but I'm practising patience.... besides, the weather's been terrible, so I've spent a few days having quiet times while I had the chance!

I have decided to do mine when all fear of rain has passed & the bassets start to wipe their paws on the way in...

Why? er um because I'd already said a week or so back that I hadn't done it since just before my mum came at Xmas.... and I didn't want anyone thinking I was a real slut. Lazy cow I can cope with. I also washed up all the saucepans from the night before for my husband because this thread made me think and I was feeling a bit guilty!

That looks more like a cemetery than a garden. You could make some nice little headstones with the names of the veg on them.

wow, that is quite an area you have there, lucky to have so much space, you will get there, praps you can find some way of diverting him, men are easily diverted !!

I have never sifted soil, and I have had some fantastic luck with growing veggies over the years...

I am just gonna do the wise thing and not say a word
