Sounds like when they were changing the name of the Newcastle Polytechnic to City Universty Newcastle upon Tyne. They'd apparently gone as far as printing the logo on the student files before they noticed!

Ah, the Southampton Solent University was originally called the Southampton Institute. They did want to call it the South Hampshire Institute of Technology

The United Alternative convention in Canada, named their new party the Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance Party.

But it quickly became known as CCRAP.

They have changed the name to Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance, switching the two words to avoid the problem. The acronym is now CRCA.

There's always the classic The War Against Terror.

Even The War On Terror isn't much better.

At work, I'm the ACP (acronym contact person), and as such I keep an eye on acronyms with unexpected side effects...

There are some that are words in their own right, but so far nothing that's not suitable for family perusal. Stupidly, there are quite a few with several meanings! If you are stuck with a text that's full of these acronyms, and you haven't a clue what it's all about, you have very little chance of finding out through googling, either...
A few examples:

EPIC - Epidemiology, Population Health & Infectious Disease Control
COST - Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research
COST - Communication in Science and Technology
REEF - Reproductive effects of environmental chemicals in females
ECHOES - Expected Climate Change and Options for European Silviculture
CASE - Cooperative Awards in Science and Engineering
ACES - Aberdeen Centre for Environment and Sustainability

I already knew nurses have a secret language for talking about their patients so I started looking for them. Here's a few;-

404 moment –when a patient’s medical records cannot be located (from internet error message: 404 Page Not Found)
10th Floor Transfer - dying (floor number is always the next number on from the highest floor in the hospital).
Acute Lead Poisoning - Gunshot wound
Adminisphere - where hospital managers work, reckoned to be "another planet"
APD - Acute Prozac Deficiency (depression)
APTFRAN - Apply Pillow To Face, Repeat As Necessary (for annoying patient)
ART - Assuming Room Temperature (dead)
ATS - Acute Thespian Syndrome: faking illness; known in US as MGM syndrome
AWTB/AWTF - Away With The Birds/Away With The Fairies; a patient who is totally confused
BBCS - Bumps, Bruises, Cuts and Scrapes (i.e. no serious injuries)
Blamestorming - apportioning of blame for mistakes, usually to any locum or lowliest medic in sight
CHAOS - Chronic Hurts All Over Syndrome (PTSD/Fibromyalgia, etc.)
Dagenham - (psychiatry) or "Three Stops Beyond Barking": severely disturbed/mad (based on British train station names)

There was a rumour a few years ago that the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants were originally going to call themselves the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants until the industry rag pointed out that wasn't a good acronym.
