Knitters - are you on ravelry?

Post: # 111945Post Jobi1canobi »

Hi,

In another thread I've just discovered a couple of knitters who are also registered with http://www.ravelry.com

I'd love to share projects with any other likeminded self-sufficientish knitters - my username on there is...you guessed it... 'jobi1canobi'. What's yours?

i like the idea of ravelry.. was hesitant at first as i dont care for social networking things.. but then i realised this would be handy for me.. plus there are some lovely wool-recipes to be had.

I have am embarassingly large stash of wool, loads of WIPs (some of which are older than my teenage son  )

must get around to updating ravelry

Every now and the I have an amnesty on all my WIPs.
I just can't live with stuff that I have no interest in anymore, I ripp it out and make something quick and simple just to use up the wool - or I set my mind to it and finish it.

Saying that I do have a cardigan sitting beside me right now that I fear I will be ripping out, it has taken 4 months to knit, but I am nearly done sewing it up and it looks hideous... but I love the wool... so it will have to go

I hate these sites where you have to register before you can even look at it to see what it is about. That's how I ended up being on Facebook (or whatever it is called) and having morons wanting me to be their friends. :angryfire:

yes i do know what you mean.. i dislike social networking sites etc...

ravelry though is ok.. there is still the groups and friends lists.. and some groups seem to have absolutely nothing to do with knitting or crochet! the mind boggles...

but it is a good resource for knitters.. big pattern library.. many of which are free. ways to organise your projects/yarn/needles and the ability to swap yarn etc.. you dont have to use it as a social networking thing. I have join the self sufficientish group (of course) and its nice to see what other people are making, etc. also joined some local groups which keeps me in touch with local events and wotnot

I agree though not being able to see what its like unless you reg is tedious.. I resisted it for ages and ages....

I know what you mean mmm.

As far as social networking goes - I do that on here, but I like ravelry for it's huge databases of wools and patterns. I love seeing other peoples work (both in progress and finished items) and reading the details on how they've amended patterns to suit them, problems they've had etc. All the wools, patterns and WIP's/finished projects can be linked so if you're thinking of doing a pattern you can see if it's listed and see who else is doing it/completed it and alternative wools used. Very good for noting any errata as well.

I too am not one for registering to everything but the site developers have done a good job with this one and I would highly recommend it. But that's just me!
