Costoluto Fiorentino

Post: # 115922Post Odsox »

Is anybody else growing Costoluto Fiorentino tomatoes this year ?

I ask because 3 years ago I grew some outside in the veg garden and apart from the slugs helping themselves to the fruit, I had a huge quantity of beefsteak toms from them.

Last year using left over seed I grew some in the polytunnel and they made huge quantities of leaves and virtually no flowers and certainly no fruit set at all.

This year I went back to growing 6 plants outside in a 2 grow bags with fresh seed and they are producing masses of flowers but again no fruit set. The grow bags next to them with storage tomatoes in are setting fine quantities of fruit, so there seems to be nothing wrong with the season or location.
I just wondered what I have to do to get some tomatoes from this variety and if anybody else is having the same problem.
Tony

I am! I have one in the backyard and have a few tiny fruits, about half an inch. But we are having a really rotten summer so far here in the NL.

My first plum tomatoe as ripened though and I have a few other varieties who have good sized fruits so it seems like the costoluto might be a slow grower...
