Anyone experience with growing quince?

Not me, obviously. I know they're supposed to smell really nice when ready.

Yesterday I found one on the ground. It seems fully grown, but smells of nothing. Should I throw it away or will it ripen by itsself?

I get a neighbor who give me quince and I cant say I have noticed a smell ... I just store them in the cool till I have enough to work with...
