didnt know where to put this, thought this area was most apt.
I can never get these to go right in my own hair but had a go on sophie. I'm rather proud of the result.
she was annoyed with her hair today so she sat still to have it messed with for once.

Clever! She must have been good to keep still while you did it. Got her best coat on too...

I'm lucky that my hair is curly so I can do those if I concentrate hard and don't look in the mirror because the hair doesn't fall out of the plait so easily. Try doing one backwards (so that the plait actually lies on top of the hair). You have to pass each strand under so that a strand pulled from the right actually goes into the plait from the left if you get what I mean. Looks lovely but I can't imagine trying to do my own.

They are easier to do on someone else, but once you get the hang of picking up the little strands of hair and adding them into the main bit, it goes all right. I've found that the tricky part is getting the hair on the sides of the face to sweep softly, so that it doesn't look so tight and drawn, while still staying tucked into the main braid securely.

Congrats on your new artistry!

I find it easier doing it on my own hair as I'm always worried I'll hurt the other person so end up not doing it tight enough!

no I didn't, it was in the QD sale for £1. it's hand made and had a fair trade label on it. I'm not sure QD or their usual patrons knew what they had lol!!! I wish I'd bought more when I saw them.

Oh well done. Hopefully she'll let you do it more often. I've never quite got the hang of doing mine, mainly because my arms ache after a few minutes. I usually cheat by pulling my hair into a pony tail, platting it then pinning it back up my head. It doesn't look nearly so nice though.

azjh77 wrote:Another nice way of doing it is the 'Pippa plait' (I used to do them on my doll called Pippa when I was little!) Do a plait down to the middle of the head then do one from the back upwards and then join the two as a ponytail in the middle.

Did you make Sophie's backpack as well Mrs F?

I love her hair, I have tried doing it on myself but cant, I make a right pigs ear of it! Yet I can do it on someone else.

Pippa dolls!!! I had Pippa dolls, and wasnt there a dark haired one called Tammy or Tamzin or something? I used to have 3 or 4 of them and soooooooo many outfts! I had a miniature suitcase about 18in long that I would carry them all about in and sit and dress them up for hours!
Much better than Sindy and Barbie dolls! :flower:

I've always loved the look of hair done like this but have never mastered it... and now my hair is too short anyway. Nice job.

Mine and DD's hair are mad curly so no chance of any french plaits here...!

(I had Pippa dolls too - Pippa, Marie,Tammie and a white-blonde haired one called Britt. Loved them!).

Here's the reversed one I mentioned. Can anyone work out this technique? I did my daughter's lovely thick straight hair by messing around with it (see was 17 at the time so had plenty of patience) so I'm not sure I could have followed this anyway...

That wannaseehow link didn't work for me. Is that just me or anyone else having trouble?
