I don't want to upset anyone by posting this here but it's something which has the potential to affect a lot of people with a lot of different backgrounds. If you're not interested in personal freedom or politics, you can stop reading now. It's not the sort of subject this site is about at all...
BUT, given the healthy debates people are having elsewhere on the site & since all of the members here have internet connections, I'm sure it will be of interest to at least some of you.

As of January 2009 owning some types of pornography (featuring consenting adults) could land you in prison AND on the sex offenders register.

Regardless of personal preference or sexuality, I see this as one more step down a slippery slope in the wrong direction. I personally find it all the more insulting that our government wants to restrict us in this way at a time when they are still supporting America in their illegal use of real torture (on NON-consenting adults). We are bombarded daily with advertising images which are, essentially pornographic. Such images are often unrealistic & can have a negative (if indirect) effect on our self image/health/wealth/happiness. What we are talking about is images of consenting adults which you are not going to be bombarded with daily. As mentioned in the thread title, this law has had limited news coverage (as the law includes more anti-terror laws too). I've only just discovered it through forums. You may not enjoy kinky fun yourself but surely an individual has the right to choose? There are obviously many of us with alternative lifestyles here, even if BDSM isn't yours.

Sadia, all my life, someone, some where, some how, has tried to tell what I should ,say, do, think, and what I should believe in, so why am I not surprised. The same arguments were used when ' Lady Chatterley Lover' was taken of the banned book list, and Mary Whitehouse used the same arguments about the TV programmes on the BBC, so I suppose that common sense will one day come to the fore. But I think not in my life time.

As usual with these things, there are already laws in place for dealing with those times when an actual crime against somebody is committed.

I have always believed that if I want to go to Hell in a handcart it's nobodys' business but mine and would like to think I'd extend that courtesy to others. Even if their way was not what I'd want to be involved in. (With the proviso that all participants were willing, not exploited or harmed.)

I watched the BBC website video recording the protest. Lots of pretty, young ladies in exotic costume. Lots of middle aged, male photographers getting down low so they could get close ups of well shaped thighs in their pictures. (But they're being paid by hypocritical media tychoons to show the rest of us how disgusting this is so, perish the thought, it doesn't count. Prurience begets prudishness!)

Start with the extremes, burn a few books, then gradually imply that any alternative behavior is deviant ..... We're on the road to McCarthyism which is only a few steps from Bantustans, Gulags and Deathcamps.

Perhaps that last paragraph was extreme .... but hold on! In these times of recession it would be a BIG boost for manufacturers of barbed wire, electric cattle prods, and crematoria equipment. (Britain regularly hosts major trade fairs selling such torture equipment!)

It goes into a bit more detail about the background. There are wider issues about privacy, censorship & freedom of speech as well as the potential to be discriminated against at work. Considerably more than a bit of "kinky p0rn". MP Martin Salter, speaking on TV tried to justify the law by mentioning "snuff films", despite the fact that the police have never found one. The imfamous "spanner case" was brought to justify having spent a lot of time & money looking for this urban myth. The closest thing they found was BDSM footage of group of consentual gay men. Despite the consent, the case was brought anyway & the men involved sent to prison.

Beware the kinky p0rn ban!

On the eve of the kinky p0rn ban commencing, CAAN are back in London for another awareness raising action about laws which criminalise adults because of their sexuality. A law we don't think the Government is publicising widely enough, which all adults who possess or access pornography need to know about.

This law is based on lack of evidence and lies!

Provisions 63-68 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 come into effect on 26th January 2009. Despite lack of evidence, the government claims criminalising of the possession of what it calls 'extreme pornography' will reduce sex crime. In fact, what evidence exists provides grounds for thinking this measure will have exactly the opposite effect to that intended - making sex crime MORE prevalent.

This law creates harmless criminals!

This law now gives the police the power to invade anyone's home and interfere with their privacy. Convictions for possessing extreme p0rn will carry up to 3 years jail sentence and inclusion on the Sex Offender Register. Just for possessing an image.

This law gives murderers and abusers excuses!

Abuse is illegal, holding images of crimes is illegal and material which promotes abuse is illegal, and quite rightly so – so where's the need for a new law? This law is aimed at consensually made adult fantasy images and based on the bad excuses of a murderer. "The pictures made me do it".

What do we want? Autonomy! When do we want it? Now!

Please join us. Feel free to bring placards and banners and dress as you please, as long as it's not obscene or involving nudity. Yes, you can bring masks, chains and cuffs. Do not bring: alcohol, non prescription drugs or weapons.

Far be it for me to complain too much - i've signed the petitions, i do feel that its not really suitable subject for this forum.

As much as i like people being involved and being informed, i don't feel that a post about p0rn is really suitable.

As i've already said, i've signed the petitions, and don't like the law coming in, but i have to reiterate that this is a family forum and some subjects may cause questions to be asked that don't need to ba answered yet.

Well, all I can say is ... Well done for the government! Hooray for them!
They are yet again looking after our best interests.

Gone are the days that I have to think for myself, gone are the days that I might have opinions... all this burden lifted!
All I have to do now is to lie down and wait for them to come around and dress me and feed me... ahhh, sweet bliss.

It's funny really, in my youth I was an earning part of the BDSM community and the amount of Politicians names bandied about who paid for certain services now deemed unfit for consenting adults to be watching is quite frankly hilarious!

There are obviously some kinds of p0rn and what not that are absolutely not agreeable in any sense but this is the start of the slippery slope into not even being able to watch someone get a quick, playful spank without being hauled off to jail!

It will only serve to drive deviants (REAL deviants) underground and will probably lead to more prostitution and more sex related crimes.
