I want to take some of my blackcurrant, redcurrant and gooseberry bushes to my allotment. My choices are

• dig them up and move the whole plant - should I prune them hard first? It would make them easier to transport
• take cuttings so that I have new babies at the allotment, and dispose of the parent plants at home
• buy new plants and dispose of old surplus bushes at home

Which option do you think I should take?

Take cuttings.
Now is the best time to take cuttings from all three, and they will grow away faster than moved plants.
Plus of course, you have the opportunity to increase your stock of plants.

We've found currant bushes to be very forgiving when being moved. We had some which were dug up in Oct and not replanted until Jan and survived and fruited that year. Prune them first, it's the right time to do this and makes them much easier to shift.
