whats the difference between Root Beer and ginger ale

i *think* root beer is made from sarsparilla. and ginger ale, from ginger. they taste completely different anyway.

Root Beer tastes like Germoline and should never be touched with a barge pole (although I have a Canadian friend who loves it) and Ginger Ale is an fizzy non-alcoholic drink which tastes of Ginger (funnily enough ) and I cannot get enough of it...
