The chickens have arrived... 3 hens collected on Saturday from an amazing place just outside of Mintey. All 3 seem to be settling in well, even the cat seems ok with them.

Had fun and games getting one of them back in the house on Sunday night... need to investigate clipping their wings, saw the guide on the omlet site and it appears simple enough

the one in the front is the image of my Speckle ...that's name and breed.
Have the others got darker neck feathers?
My girls put themselves to bed as the solar lights in the garden come on then we just close the pop hole and put all food out of Mr Ratty's way

The lighter coloured chookies could they be light sussex breed?

we have what I thought was a "White" Sussex (white with grey neck-feathers) and a Speckledy that look pretty similar to these :-) the Speckledy lays speckled brown eggs (!) and the light/white sussex lays plain pale brown ones.

They are much more settled and aren't running away when we go anywhere near them. They've even been into the house (not planned but quite a surprise for our vistors)

We've learnt to just leave them to put themselves to bed and around dusk off they go :-)

Now after a week of having them I have a few more questions.

All on one theme, poo:

Will the amount of poo decrease as they get more settled? The decking is covered, as is their nesting area.
Also, how often should we clean them out? I've been doing it every other day, mainly because the nesting area is really bad.

No eggs though :-(
