Okay so we've laid the turf for the girls in the back garden following the sagely advice of my father, its all fenced off to give it a fighting chance, esp as it was reduced from 2.58 a roll to 1.30. Its not as bad as it sounds but is going to need plenty of water.

My question is how long is it until I can let the girls loose on it, Hubby is under the impression that they will be on there by next week, Dad is talking in terms of 'this summer' which I know we won't be able to manage...any ball park figures for me to go on?

By "girls" do you mean children? When I mention my "girls" I'm talking abut my chickens :D

I'm planning to lay turf today but there's no way I'll be able to keep them off it! I think that newly laid turf is meant to be left for a 2-3 weeks before it is used properly. I need to get a hose as I don't fancy watering it regularly with my watering can?!

And £1.30/roll i a bargain!!

Oh yes these are girls of the human variety!

2 to 3 weeks is going to be a nightmare for the eldest shes so excited, oh well we'll have to see how long we can manage.

Yes the chap from the rather large and well known DIY chain explained that they get new pallets of turf in every three days, so if you ring before you go in you can see whats reduced before you go, which in our case meant that garden area that we did only cost us 26 quid BARGIN

Right better go and try and distract the unruly three year old...
