I bought a rather expensive Candian blueberry bush as a bit of an experiment. Reading a little more it seems it will do better if I buy a second one to cross pollinate them. Does anyone have any experience of this? It will be a shame to buy a second one if the first one is not happy in my garden, and it will also be a shame not to buy a second one if it is really needed to produce a decent crop. Any words of wisdom out there?

Blueberries need acidic soil. If you don't have that in your garden, you may consider keeping the blueberry in a large container. I've also heard that cropping is better with two bushes, but I only have a single bush and it had quite a few berries on it last year, despite it still being a small bush.
Otherwise I don't think blueberries as that difficult to keep as long as they have the right (acidic) growing medium.

The have lovely spring and autumn colours too...

I bought a blueberry that was self pollinating (or whatever it is called) but now into year 3 and it still has hardly any fruit , so I'm thinking of getting another one.

They're all self-pollinating, but like hazels fruit better if you have another, different variety. Just make sure they're ones that flower at the same time. I saw on recently that was claiming to be an early variety - none of my others said anything.
