How many of you get organic food boxes delivered? It's something I'd quite like to do, so that I get a regular stock of good, local, seasonal food but the main obstacle is that there's not really a suitable place for the delivery to be put if it comes when I'm out.

I'd be interested in hearing your experiences and also if you know of any companies that have got ways round my problem (eg. dropping off to local distribution points).

I have used FarmaroundUK (you can google it - perhaps the name isn't quite right) - they are a London based company but I get stuff from their satellite farm in Richmond which is nearer to me. They do have a provision to ask for stuff to be left elsewhere if you are out,; however I have several times added a comment to them to leave it round the back of the house if I'm out but it ends up on the doorstep anyway!! Produce is good, (but my husband thinks it's too pricey!) but they have been efficient and have a good range, so it's worth a look. Sue

I get some of my veg delivered by Riverford
http://www.riverford.co.uk/ they have lots of different franchises and purchase produce locally, they have formed a co-op of farms. I have been impressed with the variety and quality of these boxes and recommend them for folks down here- I know they have helped set one up in the Nene area too.

I have used Able and Cole. Whilst they are very good, I had a real problem feeding my lot with a family fruit and veg box. There just wasn't enough to last a week. Perhaps we just eat too much good stuff and for £20 a week I had to give it up and go to the .....supermarket where organic stuff is cheaper.

Keep the suggestions rolling in. Abel and Cole are the ones who's vans I've noticed round here once or twice, so it's intersting to get your perspective.

We use Abel and Cole and have been very impressed. They leave our box in the garage (which isn't locked) but apparently you can give them a key or something if you need to. There's only 2 of us and we have their small mixed box and struggle to eat our way through it (but we're gradually improving!). We've just started ordering non-veggie stuff from them so we're still trialling that but we've been having the veggie boxes for months and really like them. I chose them because they have a really good website and you can specify up to 20 preferences (which is useful for us 'coz we're a bit fussy!).

I used to get an organic box delivery when we last lived up here, but they've stopped delivering to my area now. Such a shame - the produce was always top quality and had been picked only the night/morning before.

Noticed the above link a few times at the top of the SSISH forum page - they are London based and do everything - not just veggies. Looks interesting although I don't know how good the prices are.

We started with Farmaround ages ago, left for a long time, and are now back with them. They don't always get things right, once delivering to the wrong address, a vege bag instead of a fruit bag, etc, but they have a very polite customer service staff.

They give you 'weird' fruit we never thought existed. Has anyone ever tried 'kiwai'?

They do organic milk in glass bottles, which is important to me. I hate plastic and those laminated cartons.

Which one was that? I know several that deliver in the Aberdeenshire area - have to look up their names, if you are interested.

We've decided to hold up on going for a box delivery scheme but have decided not to for now - the garden should be coming into production in about 6 weeks so we'll need progressively less as the year goes on. We're going to need fruit for a few years yet though, but I don't want to get a van round our way because we're a bit remote. Unless I can get a neighbour interested...

I,m pretty impressed with them myself. I,ve never eaten so much veg

I'm ner Jctn 27, of the M62 (Nr Ikea Leeds),

My husband has now given in to my constant nagging (lol) and told me to look for an organic scheme to try - so I am.

I have looked on www.bigbarn.co.uk and there are one or two but was wondering if anyone else in the area knows of some small local schemes (I'd like to support local producers wherever possible) ??

and any farm shops, organic shops etc would also be helpful !!

We are two adults and an 8 mth old (who eats tons of fruit and veg ) who are just starting out on the self-suffientish journey.
