Gooseberry varieties

I picked our gooseberries on Sunday and was struck by the yields of different varieties.
There was a thread on here some time ago about the wisdom of planting several varieties of fruit trees (if you have the space) and that is certainly true of gooseberries as well.
I have 4 bushes of 3 varieties; Leveller, Golden Drop & 2 Whinhams Industry (red)
The red ones yielded 712 grams of fruit off 2 bushes and the Leveller about the same from one bush, but from the Golden Drop I picked 2.7 Kg.
All 4 bushes are the same age, same size and all together in the same patch of ground, so without the Golden Drop it would have been very meagre pickings this year. Maybe next year it will be different.
We now have 4 kilos of bottled gooseberries on our larder shelf ... what a wonderful sight.

Gosh I haven't eaten a gooseberry since I don't know when but have memories of not liking them so I never buy/grow them. I would probably love them now but think I have enough soft fruit - I'm looking at the blackcurrants and redcurrants ripening with horror for the work involved and freezer space necessary, when I still haven't finished picking the strawbs and the rasps are now ripening!
