I went out for a walk the other day and found a very large fig tree/bush growing by a nearby cycle path. There were lots of green fruit on it so I left it at the time, I will be going back to have another look soon though!
Are there non-edible varieties or have I found a little gem?

We have an old fig locally that grows in an abandoned walled garden and the fruits do seem to ripen to eating quality so I don't see why not. Keep an eye on them. Ours don't seem to go the rich dusky purple that you get on shop bought ones so the test I use is to see when they feel nice and soft to the touch and the skin tears open easily revealing pinkish flesh inside. They're really delicious fresh from the tree!

figs are increasing in the wild of this country as the climate is getting warmer, I think somebody may have taven a dump there at some point as that is how they appear you get a lot around sewage works, same with tomatoes & goji berries
