New from Virginia, USA

Post: # 163682Post EmpressG »

Hi,
I am new to the board, but not the lifestyle.
I found it looking for a way to make macaroni noodles, sadly the poster never added a link to pictures of how to do it and I am not sure if I get it.
But still, this is "my team" as my kids would say.
We live on a small farm an hour or so from Washington, DC, but not in city traffic...yet. We have tried many homesteady things- raising our own meat, gardening, bees, etc with varying degrees of success.

I designed and built this house in 2000 to be sustainable, multi-generational (my parents lived with us a few years) and low maintenance. As our current economy is so depressed, I am considering taking a class to certify in home Energy auditing. May as well get paid to give advice I gladly give for free anyway.

I am pretty frugal, yet kind of a tech nerd too. The internet is full of free education on how to do so many things people don't normally think to do for themselves. A couple of weeks ago I found instructions for a wireless booster that took about 10 minutes to make for almost nothing that replaced the $60 item I had been shopping for online! Too cool.

This week I made some "mid year resolutions" to focus even more on repairing rather than buying new, especially as new items seem to have a limited lifespan even if you spend lots of money on them. Current thorn in my side is a reclining loveseat that had been a very expensive Christmas gift a couple of years ago. The store went out of business, so the warrenty was useless. DH replaced some missing bolts and unbent a bit of metal from children sitting on the arms. Now I need to replace some of the foam. So far so good.

Nice to find this board.

Hello and welcome - I think that's one of the most interesting ways that people have found us! Usually it is doing searches on home brew or elderflower cordial! I wonder who posted about how to make macaroni?
