What, apart from crumble, would you do with 1kg of rhubarb?

Does rhubarb make nice jam? I'm a complete jam novice, but made some successful blackberry jam last night, so am filled with confidence.
Or is there something else sensible I can do with it? Got it cheap from the farm shop the other day and need to use it before it actually goes mouldy.

it freezes well. cut into chunks, pack into boxes and freeze.
I'm not a fan of rhubarb jam, but its ok.

I like rhubarb Jam (rhubarb and ginger actually)... the only plentiful supply of homemade Jam we have.
Or if you have Nigella Lawson's "how to be a domestic goddess book"

there is a great recipe for brown sauce in it, based on rhubarb

I have frozen rhubarb in the past and it works very well. I just wash it and cut it into thick slices.
Last year I (apparently) made a very small batch of rhubarb wine. I forgot all about it (I really can't remember making it) until I found it in the shed a month or so ago. It was really nice.

Unfortunately, there were only two bottles of it.

Stew, freeze in portions, and when you fancy a sweet treat, microwave up and scoff with ice cream
Pretty sure I have heard of rhubarb jam, though you could also make it into a coulis to add to yoghurts & sundaes.
Or you could make a simple shortcrust pie with a bunch of it too.

I was given some homemade rhubarb and banana jam which was quite nice.
I always just cut my rhubarb into chunks and freeze it and then eat it as crumble or stewed later. It freezes really well just washed and chopped with nothing else done to it.

I didn't know you could just freeze it raw so thank you for that tip! I've always stewed it up first.

Just had the last of the forced 2008 rhubarb in a crumble with fresh apple, stewed apple (that works, it was an experiment!), elderberries and blackcurrants. It was the best ever!

wine,
wine wine wine wine wine!!!
I'm not obsessed but rhubarb makes a stonkingly good home wine, although it requires a little care as it can turn quite easily.
To help prevent against this I mix mine with bullaces or marbellas out of the hedgerows at this time of year.

Rhubarb jam - definitely.
Rhubarb also goes really well with strawberries so if you can get some of them then stew together and serve with ice cream or freeze for future use.

It's particularly nice if you include some finely chopped crystallised ginger (about 100g for 1kg of rhubarb). Doesn't set well without additional pectin, though.

Yes definity put ginger in your jam it's really nice combination.
I also make Rhubarb cake (sponge on the bottom, rhubarb bits rolled in brow sugar then sprinkle tiny bit of crumble on top)
I did make Rhubarb chutney last year and....
Rhubarb Schnapps now this I recommend-
post bits of Rhubarb into a litre vodka bottle (empty bottle),
Add 1lb sugar, top up with vodka
shake daily until sugar dissolved. leave a few months
Its like the champagne version of slow gin- EVERYONE loves it

Owww - I planted some rhubarb back in january.
I was so excited to see three leaves on it yesterday. But all the books say I can't cut any of it this year.
Willpower has never been my strong point!
