Ok..well as I'm new to hear thought this may amuse you...but I've never bought seeds..i have peppers and chillis potatos tomatos etc growing, but all from seeds I've kept from food I've had..it's my first year trying to grow..

I have a quite sucessful little lemon tree growing..from a pip I saved from my gin :) and a little grapefruit tree too...sooo when I found a stone in a glace cherry thought I may as well give it a go....

watch this space....

possibly for a really long time though.....

Good on yer tea - it will be interesting to hear if the glace cherry pip germinates though!

Worth a try Tea, but I think you maybe in for a disappointment.
AFAIK, glacé cherries are cooked and therefore so will the stone.
I have never done cherries but I have glacéed other fruits and they are simmered in a strong sugar solution that is repeated over a couple of weeks.
But then, they might do it differently on a commercial basis.

my only successful squashes were ones from seeds that I saved from a shop bought squash. They germinated better than the packet seeds & they were the only ones to successfully produce a squash

I did that with pattipan squash and they are still going...although never enough for a meal..just one very small squash every couple of weeks!!!

Seeds saved from alsorts of stuff are regularly planted in the Muddy House.

One of my friends nabs my lemon and orange trees to bonsai. I may pass her an avacado to try next!

Avocado!! I've never mnaged to grow one...someone told me to stick a cocktail stick in either side and balance it so it was touching water in an eggcup..but all that happens is it goes very mouldy!!!

Not a great deal of progress on the glace cherry as yet......

Avocados grow into lovely plants, but I read (I think there was an old thread on here that covered it too) that they won't produce fruit. Can't remember why though.

I have a kiwi fruit grown from a tiny black pip! How'd you like the 'pot'?
I planted a cherry pip a while ago, but no sign, yet! It has every chance as it had been on a journey!


It goes on the plot next spring!

i think avocados only "fruit" when mature and they can grow into a pretty big tree so maybe they need to be a certain height/size

Tea, when we have an avacado seed, we stick cocktail sticks in both sides about half way up, we then balance this on a jam jar full of water, so that the bottom third to half of the seed is in the water. We top the water up if necessary & about half our seeds germinate. Somw die in their first year though.

They need to be kept warm and our tallest one acheived ten feet before we had to give it away to a friend with a two storey conservatory. It's now over twenty feet!

right - I'm going on an avocado growing mission now then...but it does sound similar to the egg cup...so I'm not holding out a lot of hope for it not going mouldy yet...

and still no progress on the glace cherry....although something else strange-looking is growing out of the side of the pot....

Just a thought - did the glace cherry have a pip in it?

All the ones I bought don't.
