Anyone have wood floors and dogs?

Do the floors get scratched?

We are thinking about wood flooring all downstairs in our new house - yes at last, after a whole year, looks like we are moving, at last I can have veggie gardens and chickens!

We currently have slate flooring and I would prefer the warmth of the wood on my feet!!

It will scratch... but you can sand it... maybe Ours is a myriad of tiny fine scratches from the cat when she has one of her looky run arounds and as the floor is slippy she is seen scabbling to get round the corners...

We had brand new hardwood floors in our rented house last year..... 2 Bassets, a cavalier spaniel & a cat did it no harm at all

Now we have tiles in the kitchen & a lino-laminate look floor in the back room.... although our lino is a cheap version, you can get some really good laminate look-a-like linos - that might be worth a thought.... but decent hard wood flooring should be fine with the dogs, and if you get a rustic type, the scratches will all add to the 'look' anyway

Dirt is the worst thing for scratching wood floors, so they need sweeping very often and no muddy boots.

try to keep the dogs nails clipped, that will help a lot. i agree about dust/dirt causing scratches so if you use a barely damp mop to "dust" the floors it will also help.

Ach!! That's me buggered then!

We have wooden floors & had to put carpet down as the greys kept doing the splits and were in danger of really hurting themselves. If we can we'll have stone next time, but with underfloor heating.

We have 18mm solid oak floor and 3 doggies and have no problems with scratches. We were treading very carefully at first and banned all outdoor shoes but that didn't last long. It's been down for a year now and when its swept and mopped still looks new. I have heard of folk throwing handfulls of coins at new hardwood floors to give them "the used look" but I'd prefer to let it wear naturally
