Has any one any suggestions for getting rid of ground elder apart from digging it out?????
A friend has a heavy growth on a bank at the end of his garden which makes it very unsightly.......

If you don't want to use chemicals, persistent digging is about your only bet; even a little bit of root left in the ground can cause the plant to re-spread.
Perhaps the answer is to regard it as a source of free food - it was originally introduced as a vegetable (like spinach, or use as a salad). I've never tried it myself, though.

Eat it! I had some in my salad the last two nights - I'm really getting into this free salad stuff in the garden.

A guy over on Downsizer suggests killing it by eating it - repeated pickings will weaken the plants.

Do you know anybody with goats? They love it, too...

Unfortunately eating it is not an option its on a bank right at the side of a busy main road and will be heavily contaminated with pollutants from the buses cars etc that pass by.
I would prefer not to use chrmicals in my own garden but think this might be the only asnwer in this one, my freind wants to plant it up for the summer.
I though I might have to get roundup or some thing like that.
