OK, loads of questions first!

What kind of dog have you got? Some breeds are have higher prey drives etc than others...

Where are your birds and rodents kept? Does your dog have access to this place - if so, could you seperate them?

Is the dog getting in, or are the birds getting out? You may need to rethink your housing strategy.

I have around 30 chickens, and have had to go to quite a lot of expense building and maintaining enough fencing and security to keep my 2 dogs out of their way.

The dogs aren't 'killers'; it's just that to them, a flapping chicken is an excellent toy  The very few times the dogs have got to the hens, the hens have died from shock - there wasn't a bite mark on them (except the cockerel my youngest dog got to - he had his tail feather pulled right out and attacked the dog back!!)
