Does it go on the compost or should I be mulching with it?

Yes

Doesn't matter too much really.... don't put too much in any one place but fruiting trees and bushes love it... or add it too your compost a bit at a time.

And only use wood ash, from wood that hasn't been treated or painted or what have you...

We use the ash from coal to make clinker paths in the garden.

The 2nd thread goes into the subject in more depth. It's a subject that comes up quite frequently!

Generally speaking, wood-ash is good for the compost heap ( in moderation). If it's coal-ash, then this is quite acidic ( good for soft friuts)..... but it needs to stand for a few months before use. :salute:

Thanks everyone. It's wood ash rather than coal ash and I sadly don't have any fruit trees. I do have some blackcurrants, raspberries and a blueberry though...maybe they'd like it?

I'll stop hoarding it in the shed and start putting it on the compost little by little.

I have heard that you can use ash and urine to make good fertilizer.
I think people out of problem eating the food if they know that there has been
human urine used. lol
Has anyone tried it yet?

Or if you know any potters, they can use wood ash to make lovely glazes for their pots...
