Gardener's Delight, or Roma?

Post: # 19325Post Muddypause »

I've got both Gardener's Delight and Roma tomato plants coming on. Unfortunately, after having kept them separated and identified from seeds, I got them all mixed up when I came to pot them on. Now I don't know which is which.

However, there are two distinct types of plant, as one has slightly darker leaves than the other. Is anybody else growing these this year, or can anybody remember from previously, which is which?

I only have about 100 Roma tomato plants! The reason I have so many, was because they were my bargain packet for 20p. I planted the whole lot expecting just a few to pop up. All of them did.
So I can't help you out there.

I am so pleased that I am not the only one that muddles up seedlings.

Surely there's a clever person somewhere here that can help you out. 8)

Can you post a photo? I 'think' I could recognise Gardeners Delight. They might be the darker leaves.

It's not quite so clear on the photograph. The darker one is on the right. The leaf stem colour is darker, too.

The one on the left looks just like my Roma.

I have taken a photo, but as yet have to work out how to attach it here!

So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli

Right; thanks for that.

In return, here is my earlier post about including pictures with your message:

Not an expert, but my Gardener's Delight plants have darker leaves than my singular Roma cultivar.

I've done it, but it took me a while to work out how. I then realised that you could have done it yourself by editing your own post and making it a sticky!!!

I reckon the darker one is the G. Delight. You'll find out soon enough anyway - or were you going to grow them in different ways?

Right, thanks all. Looks like there's a clear consensus.

It's just because I'm a complete anal retentive, and I'd like to keep me indeterminates separate from me semi-determinates.

Ta muchly. I did try that actually, but for some reason the stickyfying option was not available to me. This is, after all, a forum with added quirkiness.

Yup...the one on the right definitely looks like my Gardener's Delight! The one on the left doesn't look familiar at all...but then I've never grown Roma!
