Hello there ,

just seen a funny article on the dutch ceefax .
In the Netherlands , Somalian "pirates " are in court , accused of trying to hijack a vessel of the Antilles .
The vessel was under Antilles flag but owned by a Turkish shipping company .

The pirates pleaded not guilty ,
the first one said he makes 40 euros in the dutch prisons , enough to maintain his family at home .
The second said he is pleased to be in dutch prison , now he can watch the football championship in colour .

The real reason why these poor sods are there is that European fishers are robbing their seas of food they used to
catch and live off .

The dutch state evolved ,and the richness that they now possess from , Piet Hein , and De Ruiter , pirate from the middle ages ,now they think they have the right to charge the "pirates".
If Europe would allow Africe to export sugar and stop protecting their own farmers , who receive at least 10 k a year ,
there would be no poverty in Africa.

regards,

Paul

That's quite far-reaching........ if a scientist from Kew Gardens had'nt smuggled Rubber tree seeds from Brazil to help set up the India Rubber Co......... then Brazil would not now be forced to flatten the forest to sell the wood.

Have to agree with Pumpy here - crimes in history do not mitigate modern crimes. And anyone who takes hostages - no matter what the cause - deserves everything that gets thrown at them. In my opinion, of course  .

On a side note, you'll have to admit that those Somalian pirates must have balls of steel.

Imagine...About 8 guys in a rotten polyester boat that could accommodate about 4 people.
On the horizon appears the HMS Tromp,a Dutch navy frigate.
It's armed to the teeth with hi-tech weapons, among them a goalkeeper auto-cannon that can literally saw a small vessel in several pieces with one or two salvo's.

They decide to give it a go, and try to board the frigate.

Given the performance of the Dutch military in Bosnia I'm surprised the Somalians think they need as many as 8.

...Touche.
If they only knew how long it would take before some higher-up gave the HMS Tromp permission to open fire...
One Somalian armed with a carton of eggs could do the job nicely.
