Bird flu. Again?

Post: # 215003Post Rosendula »

HONG KONG: Hong Kong has confirmed its first case of human bird flu in seven years and raised the bird flu alert to ‘serious’.

Health Secretary York Chow said late Wednesday that a 59-year-old woman had tested positive for H5N1 bird flu after returning to Hong Kong from the Chinese mainland, and is in serious condition in a local hospital.

With the announcement, the government raised the bird flu alert to "serious," meaning there is a risk of contracting the disease within the territory.

Chow said Hong Kong officials were meeting Thursday and would determine whether additional measures are needed to safeguard local residents.

The bird flu virus first struck Hong Kong in 1997. Six people died in that outbreak and all chickens in the territory were culled. - AP

Well over here in the darkest north east you can have the annual flu jab.... but it also has the swine flu jab in the same injection. Sod democratic choice for the sick, young, elderly, or those who are pregnant or have long standing conditions.......

I reckon that if you get the flu you just need to take equal measures of domestos and whiskey. The domestos kills 99% of all known germs and the other 1% is too pi$$ed to worry about... bum bum......

Was it not last year that the manufacturers of the drugs were found to be over exagerating the risks to increase their profits.

Good advice Al. Do you think the supermarket's own brand would be as effective?

I know what you mean Okra, and TBH, although I have 3 chickens I'm not worrying about the bird flu itself, I'm more bothered that my neighbours will worry about it if it gets here. But a month later and I don't think we've heard anything else, so maybe it's all blown over. Maybe if we have a no-news-day at some point, they might drag the topic up again, but I can't see that happening for a while in the UK  .
