Bet they're still torturing Tibetians mind. I wouldn't be celebrating too much just yet. It appears to me that China will only do things that benefit China (Well, the communist govenment's version of China at any rate) There'll be a reason they are investing in green technology and you can bet it wont be for the good of the planet.

Thanks. I should imagine that Obama will not be discussing them this week. The way China behaves in Tibet is a disgrace. So that's human rights violations, check. Weapons of mass destruction, check. Dictatorship in charge, check. Invading neighbouring countries, check. Must be due an invasion by GB and USA soon then. No, I'm wrong there's got to be easily controllable oil fields as well. If I write no more posts after today then I'm probably up for extradition.

China does not want to depend on anybody contrary to so many of our countries. Too proud probably. Or maybe on this occasion, quite intelligent. Anyway, they will use all means possible to be fairly independent and if that means using greener technologies to be less attached to the oil industry that is not in their backyard, then they will use those technologies. I read somewhere a few years ago that they (the government) were very concerned in the amount of oil they needed for their industries etc, and they were looking to keep this need well under control. Like everything else I suppose. I think they want to hold the power and they certainly do not want to be in a position where we could put pressure on them.

I would like to hope it's for the good of the planet, but of course, it's all about money and power.

Hi,
I learned today from a buddy of three Chinese scientists working on research at a US institution. They are working on electrical battery charging designs so that they can charge much faster....something like 80 times faster. Pretty amazing!

China still has a long ways to go regarding human rights, their economy I understand is artificially controlled, and their pollution (air quality) is really terrible around major cities...so investing in green technology is a good effort to reduce that.

I think our American mindset has been slowly changing over the past 20 years. It's now very common for most people I know, work and neighbors, to sort and recycle. This was a major obstacle for us a long time ago.

The government offers a 30% tax credit on certain green technologies. That's quite substantial.

Regards,
Chuck

It seems to me that sometimes Government's try to make the rest of us prioritise recycling, conserving energy etc (which I might add, I fully agree with), but don't have the same commitment to do it themselves on a larger scale.
