Sunday was absolutely gorgeous. The rainy week had passed on, the blue sky was busy with birds darting to and fro, and the air was really warm.

Mentally it seemed liked an ordinary day "after" the last average frost for the year. There was a big temptation to start planting more plants in the garden.

However, I resisted!! It took a lot of willpower...since I'm a relatively new gardener. So, I busied myself with some maintenance items. We reorganized the utility area by the compost bin. That's where we store extra bags of things, caging and supports for plants, pots, etc. Put up a pallet fence to hide it from the front lawn. Also began mixing compost into the raised beds, and monitoring plants in the greenhouse.

How do you manage to suppress the urge when an unusually warm winter day visits you?

Hmm, sow lots of stuff far too early inside, then struggle to live amongst thousands of leggy seedlings for two months.
Seed catalogues - but this is an expensive diversion.
Taking cuttings of things too - root cuttings can be taken this time of year inside and this satisfies my urges in the short term. But you do end up with multiple plants and no space to put them in the garden.

If all else fails, try wine. It's for the good of your garden.

Blimey I still have two months worth of winter gardening jobs to do, they are never ending and winter is not long enough! Lemme see - still got to finish pruning the apples and pears, need to prune the overgrown elders by the stream, have all the trees in the woodland to look at and some to cut down for firewood cos it's all getting really overgrown in there, a never ending battle against ivy and brambles, finish clearing around my perimeter fence, dig 3 more plots of the veg patch, tidy up all flower beds cutting back all the old dead growth, then start the rose pruning, tidy up edges around gravel drive, tidy up flower bed edges, then it will be peach tree pruning time, then I might start to think about growing something.

Seed order arrived. Am purring gently.

Riff Raff what seeds did you buy?I'm starting to get restless,keep looking at my empty veg plots and mentally planning what I'm going to grow this year!Thinking of having one bed with just asian type veg as we cook quite alot of stir fry type dinners.
