The picture isn't sufficiently detailed for me to be sure, but it is very likely Dryad's Saddle. Many books say that Dryad's Saddle is a poor edible, but I think if taken at the right stage (when young and not too tough) they can be very good. They also suffer from maggots sometimes. I also found some yesterday growing on an old Ash stump, it was the best display I have ever seen with lots of brackets, the biggest of whcich must have been pushing a meter wide.

Nice one Susie. Tender Dryads are a brilliant find. Fried in butter, garlic and salt they make a really meaty treat. One my absolute favourites.
