Heard it in the news we are invited to submit a fresh design for 20,000 pylons about to be built. Surely it would be a good idea to incorporate solar panels and/or windmills into the new design?

That is probably the case. However the old design has worked for 60 years or more so my point is 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Unless the old design is too expensive to make these days and they are looking at ways to cut costs.

It's massively more expensive, and given the choice between less dosh for the shareholders and higher prices for consumers, well... No prizes for guessing which they'd pick.
