Hi from sunny Ireland
Hello.....My husband and I, along with 3 children packed up and moved to a 2 acre smallholding in the south east of Ireland 6 months ago in a bid to have a different way of life than the one we were experiencing in the UK. We have 2 goats that provide milk, hens and ducks for both meat and eggs, pigs and sheep for meat and are breeding bunnies for meat too. We have planted an orchard with plums, apples, pears and a peach we were given and I intend to plant 9 cider apple trees in the autumn. We have a large veg patch which is already providing us with all the veg we need, and grow various herbs which we sell at local markets.
Everything is trial and error at the moment, we're on a very sharp learning curve but are enjoying every minute of it.

Greetings from the "other side" of the country.
We are doing pretty much the same as you, although we moved here 16 years ago now, and have mostly enjoyed every minute.
Good luck on your venture and I hope you can say the same in 16 years time.

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Hello and welcome from Mayo. We are also immigrants from the UK. Been here for 2 years and now retired and just doing a little toward self sufficiency. This is a great forum for advice.
Treat the earth well, it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children.

Thanks for the lovely welcome everyone!! Taking delivery of a donkey as we speak, it was keeping a neighbour's bull company but is no longer wanted - going to put in in our hay meadow with our sheep to keep the grass down over winter.
