Mushroom ID?

Hi,

I have noticed that beside my pond and under a Hosta i have a mushroom growing on an old tree stump. I was looking to see if anyone could help identify it, not for eating purposes but basically i'm curious to know what it is, if it is harmfull and how to get rid of it? It seems to have spread a thin dusting of brown dust over the whole area which i am guessing are the spores. Any help is appreciated.

It started off white last year and i left it thinking it would go away but it turned black and brown over the year and is still growing, seems to start white then turn colour.

Apologies pictures arent the best.

Thanks.

Hi Pondkeeper and welcome to ish.

Always difficult to id from photo's but quite possible they're Inonotus cuticularis.

You're correct in thinking the brown dust are spores
