...because he says that this May wasn't unusually cool, it's that the past few have been unusually warm.

Thankfully the weathermen don't agree with him!

I reckon, no matter what you think of what Bill Oddie says, calling for the death penalty is just a tad harsh.

Yeah, and?

In all seriousness kids, self-sufficient(ish).com does not condone the arbitrary slaughter, by katana or any other edged weapon, of any minor celebrity, no matter how beardy they may be. In extreme circumstances we might run to a quick bludgeoning with a courgette*, but that's about it.

*Or a sound radishing, fans of ancient Greek justice.

what a funny old thread this is

Now there was me thinking that you were on about him selling out with a B&Q advert.

I've just checked the actual figures...

In May 2006, temperatures were close to the historical mean in Northern Scotland, well above the mean in East Anglia and fairly close to the mean everywhere else.

In May 2005, mean temperatures were very close to average across almost all parts of the UK, making it the coldest May since 1996.

In May 2004, mean temperatures were above average in most parts of the UK.

In May 2003, mean temperatures were above average in most parts of the UK.

In May 2002, mean temperatures were above average in most parts of the UK.

In May 2001, mean temperatures were above average in most parts of the UK.

In May 2000, mean temperatures were above average in most parts of the UK.

So, Bill Oddie was right! May last year and this year felt cool because temperatures were on the mean after a long spell when they were above - in some cases by 1.9C.
