Poppy Seeds
Are the poppy seeds I have collected for next year's poppies also suitable for using on bread etc. or are the ones for cooking completely different?
Have a look at my blog: http://livingin22.blogspot.com and my new blog http://minigastricbypass2011.blogspot.com

Re: Poppy Seeds
I've been looking at planting poppies to keep the seeds for baking too. I think it's the oppium poppies' seeds that are commercialised. Not sure whether other varieties are edible or not... someone else has got any idea?

Re: Poppy Seeds
It's the opium poppy seeds which are used in baking, not sure about the edibility (is that a word?) of ornamental types.
Any way, if your poppies look like this
then you can dry the heads and harvest the seed to use.

Re: Poppy Seeds
Cool, thanks for that. I was going to ask the same question myself.
