I love the scent of sandalwood and i could do with an aftershave. Looking at an ad like this...

...would it be a case of just mixing sandalwood essential oil with olive oil? Or is there more to it?

I would have thought aftershave was more spirit/alcohol based although rose water is much "softer on the skin".
Wiki has a good article:

Perfume the film is good but I preferred the book although ymmv,
SEisher, I've made perfume just by adding drops of essential oil to sweet almond oil - it's quite an oily base but you don't use loads so I don't mind too much (although I'm sure someone knows a lighter oil to use for a base). Try it and see how you go? (You might need to blend a couple of EOs with the sandalwood to get a complexity of scent).

You could try this recipe and just use the herbs/spices that you like.

Adding a little glycerine will give a slightly moisturising effect too, if you wanted.
I often make my own fragrances and find that Eo's mixed with carrier oils moisturise, but do not smell for long, where as the alcohol based ones last a bit longer. That might just be me however as even comercial fragrances disappear on me quickly.

thanks keaniebean that sounds really nice. i don't know if i'd worry about putting alcohol on my skin that's my only worry. but like i say it does sound nice you can almost smell it.
