I do hope that the feckless, useless, politicos enjoying their directoriships after a hard stint in public life and the avaricious bastards in the banks who allowed them to run up unsustainable debts on our behalf are properly rewarded....

Would we have enough courts?

I think politics may be the only field in which dangerous incompetence is not a criminal offence (in the western world, at least). I can think of a number of British politicians who would be candidates for a test trial.

i was watching this not so little bit of rather scary viewing earlier

its very US centric but tbh its an eye opener as to how the whole situation was allowed to snowball from day one.

Aglianico fuelled stupidity aside, it's interesting how the great democracies that underpin individual freedom in the west can be suddenly dumped in two EU states and replaced by unelected financiers, who no doubt will govern in the interests of all the citizens.

I expect loads of us are on all sorts of weird lists(I know I was listed by some agency in the 70's as a card carrying member,as well as all the ANZL stuff).Strange thing is ,as the Greek thing suggests(and,JH,I love the last paragraph) the real threat to the established order comes not from barricades, but from personal and community self-reliance.

It is, though often democracy is something of an illusion. We get to choose from X, Y or Z who has been him/herself chosen by whom? The party great & good or whoever is holding the purse strings for the most part. It is a bitter irony that the unelected technocrat who has little political capital to lose can often do a better - fairer - job than an elected politician. It stinks, but there it is. :(

outside of athens greeks more often than not have their plots and grow veggies and tend something for the kitchen but its the method of intensive farming that is totally scary with herbicides etc thrown about in crazy quantities. they actually managed to pollute the water table in our area.
i was really happy to read about the permi group in athens! there is another chap in the north who has a forest garden too. i must pay him a visit sometime. it's a step in the right direction i agree although recent greek history, 50 odd years ago only, means living off the land doesn't have the same picture for them as it does for us. not good life more like. bloody hard life.
