Ummm,...Hello?
From what I have seen this site is right up my alley,...but I have been lead by the media over here to believe that Americans have a really bad reputation throughout the rest of the world. So my question is; Are Yanks allowed on here? ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Let us be silly and free

You are more than welcome!
I am new here too, there is a lot to read and the people are friendly.
Can you be more specific than central?

Hi and welcome
Good to meet you. Don't worry, I'm an accountant and we're universally hated as well but the people on this forum are really nice.

Re: Ummm,...Hello?
Thanks very much!! I can see that I'm going to learn a lot here.
We're in Missouri. We have a small farm; chickens, cats, very large dog, rabbits, veggies, fruit, and occasional hogs. We love the country, and we do as much for ourselves as we can. I am happiest when I am learning something new!

I don't speak for anyone else, but, for me, I have learned huge amounts about self sufficiency from my US friends. They have access to many things we lack (pressure canners and good supplies of heirloom wheat for a kick off). On the other hand our access to certain old tools and techniques is much better. My mates and I regularly shuffle parcels, information and seeds backwards and forwards between ourselves - and we both benefit!
So for me - the great and different, contributions help us all out - welcome - I'm sure you will bring a different set of skills

Re: Ummm,...Hello?
Seriously!? No pressure canners? How do you put up meat? I mean the freezer is great, but I also very much enjoy the convenience of cracking open a jar of home canned Chalupa or even just cooked ground beef, not to mention rabbit, turkey, and chicken meat, all ready to heat and serve.British Red wrote:I don't speak for anyone else, but, for me, I have learned huge amounts about self sufficiency from my US friends. And how do you do low-acid foods like green beans, etc? (See, I'm learning already!)

Re: Ummm,...Hello?
All sorts of ways. Lots of people freeze most produce. But we (my wife and I) pickle, dry, salt, brine, clamp, lactic ferment, jam, jelly...oh and some of us import pressure canners :)

Yea, mate! They've treated this "yank" just fine here! LOL! Hello from Tennessee! I think for those who are of the "ish" gene are always going to get along just fine no matter where we are from. I just pity the rest! LOL! However in all honesty my family line goes back to the 1500's from Merry Ole England. A lot of "ishes" in our line through the centuries.
