apricot seeds

iv just discovered you can eat the stone inside the apricots!
they are dried first in the sun.
when ready they taste and look just like almonds! yummy! :cheers:

Mmmm yes they are nice. A lot of manufactured almondy products use them, battenberg cakes, macaroons etc. Cheaper but still good.

Yes, they are delicious, but don't overdo it - they have cyanide in!

The FSA has recommended that only two per day are eaten

I remember they were considered one of the first superfoods back in the 80s. As a source of laetrile they were going to prevent cancer but then several people died and that was that.

omg sceriously! i must have eaten about 50 in one go!!!!!!! i never even knew! why did no body tell me! maybe they are seacretly trying to bump me off!!! :lol:

ah it says if they're roasted it distroys the cyanide. maybe they are actually roasted, i just asumed they were sun dried.

lightly crush them put in a bottle of brandy with sugar leave for a few month you have ameretto

On a similar vein, I remember reading many years ago that apple pips were also poisonous with cyanide, but you would need to eat a whole cup full to have any reaction.

Also that orange peel was used for wine making and the alcohol produced actually dissolved the waxy oil they were treat with on the outside. Not sure if they still do that thou.
