I have just set 5 Megabite tomato seeds to chit, which will hopefully sprout in a couple of days.
If this year's growth is the same as last year, they should start producing ripe fruit in early December and continue right through until I throw them out when the next year's outdoor ones get into full swing (about now).

I've been transplanting the side shoots from our tomatoes. Do you think they'll come to anything? They seem to be growing OK.

Yes, they should produce identical plants to the ones they came from.
Are you going to try growing them all winter ?

I'll give it a go. I'm not expecting much because of the low light levels but I might bring one into the house and see how it does. At least it'll get 20 minutes with the light lamp while I have my breakfast

I'm going to try growing veg over winter. Not tomatoes though, as we have well over 100 plants planted which i think will be enough to make into pasatta ect to bottle up and see us through till next year. Doeds that sound like enough for a family of 4? I use pasatta/tomatoes in meals probablly about 3-4 times a week.
Might try some cherry tomatoes for salad over winter. Do they taste ok in the winter? My cherry toms are a brittish variety and they are growing crazy here! They are huge and keep collapsing and I'm cutting side stems off all the time. I was just throwing them away, but now I'll take the next lot for cuttings. Should I only take cuttings from stems without flowers? Or does it not matter?

What do you suggest grows best indoors over winter? I suppose things like spring onions which dont take up much room as you can cram lots of them together. I'd like to try courgettes but i dont have the space to put them, the ones in the garden are growing huge too. Maybe beans would be good, mange tout and sugar snap peas, they climb vertically and you keep harvisting them throught the season..........
