how do I recognize a sloe bush?

I think there is a sloe bush growing where I live (netherlands ) but I am not sure.
doesn't look like PLUMS at all, but smaller...which is what I was expecting
how can I tell for sure?

Sounds likely. I always do a google image search, then you get lots of pictures to check against.

Sloe fruit looks like a small plum and usually has a pale powdery blue bloom over a glossy almost black fruit - but it doesn't always have the bloom, and sometimes not all fruit on the same tree will have it.
Cut open the fruit is a drupe (plum-like) with a central stone rather than individual seeds.
The thorns aren't always obvious.
