Forum moving-sorry for any hiccups
Hello, you may have noticed the forum is acting a little funny and the site is a co.uk at the moment. This is all due to the moving of the server.
One of the hiccups has been that any member joining after 28th September to yesterday may have to join again and posts made since that time will have disappeared. This is slightly embarrassing and I am really sorry to anyone posting or joining in that time.
The database for the forum is huge and unwieldy as it has been going for a long time. We had to take the database at a certain date (28th September) then move it over to the new server, this took time, negotiation with the new hosts and a few unforeseen problems (like every search ever made since 2007 being saved in it's own hidden but enormous file!).
The searches are also currently down as a new method of searching is put in place but all should be running smoothly as soon as possible!
Sorry folks - Dave

Okay, fiddled around and fixed it for now but it doesn't seem to want to do any searches before the end of October, you can at least look for active topics. Email me if it goes down again dave (at) selfsufficientish.com

Have you not got a 10 year old knocking around, they can usually fix these type of problems

It's Dan you need to thank, he's put in the hard work despite being up against it from the start.
There might be a couple more bumps on the way yet but it will get there.

Any idea when the search will be functioning again?
It worked briefly yesterday but is down again this morning.

Re: Forum moving-sorry for any hiccups
No modesty at all-I make calls and email people Dan does the work :)
So, update - we need to update the forum software and move server again. The present server isn't up to the job, the forum is MASSIVE and with the software it runs on is really out of date.
You may notice all the topics are still active even the ones going back to over five years. The present software can only delete old posts and not archive them. This is crap as it means years of ISHers post will vanish overnight - I don't really want that to happen so it needs a lot more work.
Basically, the forum is a big ball of knotted string and the more we unravel it the more those knots come undone! It might take time but it should be sorted soon.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
