I'm not finding so many slugs this year. Is it just a bit early, or could it be... is it possible... maybe the centipedes and beetles are getting the upper hand?

Nah, that's an impossible dream. I'm sure the slimy buggers will be out in force come June.

Snail patrol would be useful here.

I've been doing that for about a month now.

I got my comeuppance when I said last year that one of the benefits of hydroponics is that it's slug free. Well that ain't the case, the little (and big) buggers overwintered in the vermiculite and now that I've filled the pipes with gourmet slug food (cauliflower, lettuce, etc) they are having a party.
I think I may have just about gained the upper hand, I'm only finding the odd one or two now on my nightly prowl.

Frogs. That's all I have to say.

Amphibians are great - but not if you're a slug.

We've bought a cheap fish tank and are going to get our own back on the little buggers. (We've had the tank for over a year - this year we're definitely going to use it)

What? You're going to keep them as pets?

That'll show 'em

I have had limited success training frogs to eat slugs

Training frogs with a shovel is a no-no. You have to be kind to them and gain their confidence and affection. THEN they eat your slugs.

Earwig control measures required here. They are so plentiful, even the chooks and ducks are sick of eating them! How does one train their frogs to eat earwigs then? Reverse psychology?

Already on the innate frog menu.

Why is it that all the resident animals here never do what they are supposed to? I have seen our frogs with earwigs practically crawling over their feet, not even looking at them. :angryfire: Maybe someone just forgot to tell them. I'll get right onto that.

What about millipedes?

How many MKG's are there?

The general rule with frogs is that if it will fit into their mouths, it's food - as long as it moves. If anything can stay still for long enough, the frogs see nothing.

Next time you're ambushed by a giant frog, then, you know what to do

EDIT: Oh - just one, but getting very absent-minded about passwords. Well, I say just one. On a full moon, anything can happen.
