What do you do with the whey when you are making cheese at home?? I know you can make bread with it but there is rather a lot of it.

The classic thing is to feed it to your pigs (or chooks). I suppose you could dry it - although I am not sure what you could do with it after your dried it!

There is a fermented drink made/used to be made in Shetland called Blaand from fermented whey.
Failing that, make ricotta cheese with it, feed it to livestock, or use in baking (like you said) or add to soups and stews,e tc for added nutrition.

Nev... and Luath..
Thank you both!
I rather like the idea of Blaand... hmmmm there is quite a lot of it.
Didn't know you could make ricotta out of it either... oooh this is so exciting. Ina has lent us a book on cheesemaking by Katie Thear... quite a few things to try out in there...

No worries! You'd have to be a bit sus on anything with an name like "Blaand" wouldn't you? Maybe that's the noise you make after you've drunk some

You're supposed to be able to wash your woollens in it - probably after you've filtered the bits out... I think it's very good for skin, so maybe you could add it to your bath water? (But who'd take a bath in the current water situation!

Maybe Cleopatra didn't bathe in asses' milk, but in whey...)

Name does sound dodgy - I prefer the name Fallachan... see attached... (really very interesting read about the bloke who makes Lanark Blue cheese....

Ina... that must be it... better let the history books know the update to the Cleo story
Actually - in support of baths in this current water situation.. at least you can harvest the water from the bath - not so easy from the shower (unless your bath is over the shower that is) and you can always share a bath with a friend lol.
