What we found

I remember a thread a while back about unusual discoveries in your garden, well, I think I've beaten you all - we found a bomb!!

Strewth, kiddo; take the prize for most startling tale on the forum, ever. The people you bought from - they didn't all wear sharp Italian suits and sunglasses, did they? And talk about strong family connections, or anything?

Glad you're OK. I think I'd be a bit careful if you do any digging in the garden; you never know what you might find. Or who.

That's doubly scary, because it isn't a WWII bomb that's been sitting there for yonks, is it? Just who did you buy the house from?

Glad you are OK by the way!!!

Thanks guys, I haven't posted here in a while, 2 moves recently, so not much SS going on. I do always pop in for a read though! The bomb looked as if it had been there for years, all overgrown with grass. My guess would be gangs of some sort, the house is not in the best part of town, and was a real mess, so who knows who it could've been...

We do have 2 chooks now, bantam Pekins, the kids love them - and so do I!

We're a bit iffy about doing any more cleaning up here, luckily my OH slashed hals the backyard before making his discovery, so that part is safe, might just leave the rest!

OMG, beats my blue string hands down! I'm guessing the police would have made a fingertip search of the rest of your garden looking for clues, right? Metal detectors etc? You should be safe enough if so!

I remember a skit on "not the nine o'clock news" where two brothers come on a clever plan to get their overgrown garden cleared free of charge... a telephone call to the tune of "an English country garden".

"Hello police, I've reason to believe
There's a body in the... garden"

Mmmhh, maybe you should let the chooks roam free on the part of the garden that's NOT cleared yet... Might have feathers all over the place, if they do find something.

Sorry. I know you love them. Seriously - isn't the police interested in checking out the rest of the garden, just to make sure? I think it would be in their own interest (and yours)!

For many years we had a funny bit of metal in the garden that my father said was a splinter of a WWII bomb. It was an ideal dibber... Swords to ploughshares, and bombs to dibbers.

I was injured in a bomb blast in Belfast... six years after it went off. The blast was in 84, rained shrapnel on our house three quarters of a mile away, kept a piece... and cut myself on it when I moved the last of my stuff out of my parents house. D'oh!

We were told the bomb squad did a "sweep" of the area - whatever that means! The police said we could get the sniffer dogs out if we wanted, but we would be charged for it... so the back half of the section will remain abandoned, I think. It's about a quarter acre block, but very narrow, so it goes back a long way. Think I'd get a goat or something if we were staying!

We hope not to be here long, going for consent to build on our 20 acres now, fingers crossed!

And ha ha Andy - that's one I haven't heard! My favourite is that when I say my house is a bonbsite, I really mean it!

It's certainly the most original reason not to double-dig I've ever heard.
