I upgraded the RAM of my laptop from 256 MB to 512 MB today. It was a simple enough procedure and the machine appears to be running fine.
However, is there any way that I can check that the memory has been 'accepted' and is in use? (as opposed to just sitting there, doing nothing, in which case my efforts were futile).
Any pointers would be useful.
BTW, the machine is running XP until I get my act together and install Linux.

you can check how much memory you have in XP very easily. you need to get to the task manager, you can do this in at least 2 ways, one is to CTL-ALT-DEL and select task manager, or you can right click any unused bit of the start bar and select task manger from there. Once it is open select the "performance" tab at the top. in the bottom right of this window is a physical memory summary, how much you have, how much is in use.
